Should I avoid doctors who are network providers? (Accidents & Personal Injury Law)

Tue, 31 Mar 2009 07:43:00 GMT

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Georgia
I have the opportunity to choose my own doctor and I am confused about the whole network thing. I seems like over half the doctors in my area are listed as providers. I heard that these doctors will sometimes side with the insurance company because they are afraid if they don't they will be dropped. Anyone have any good or bad experiences with this one.

  • We also don't know if the OP's employer participates in a managed care program. That could change things, too.

Wrong about what? That I said he must go to his network provider?
According to the Spiva Law Group in Georgia, there ARE ways to allow the employee to see a more objective specialist or physician, so it isn't cut in stone that an injured employee MUST go to the company doctor, listed on such panels.

  • If you choose to go with a Dr out of network your insurance will pay even less money. Go with network doctors. Look at your plan. Your coverage is way less for out of network docs.

You should have been more specific! Since it is a workers comp issue, you have to go to the network provider to get treatment.
If you are in California, you have to go to such network for 3 days and then you can get your own doctor if not satisfied or believe your company network provider is biased in the treatment of your injury. Also, you should have had immediate treatment instead of waiting as it appears.
