Employment references (Consumer Law & Fraud)

Thu, 05 Feb 2004 12:06:00 GMT

Hi
Out of curiousity I just wanted to ask does DIMIA actually check
every employment reference and if so how does it do it?

I thought that
after an independent skills assessment application which is pretty
thorough that would be enough?
Or am I deluded?
Any help would be
appreciated.
Irene

Tricky one unless you don't mind them knowing you say
you are THINKING of emigrating some time in the next year or so.

    If
they have just promoted you they must value you, if they know you are
thinking of leaving they should be more worried about possibly losing
you, let them do the worrying about that :-)

    Regards

    ST

    PS - I just
got a work one, was honest as to why and the repsonse suprised me, they
keep telling me they don't want me to leave and that if I do go then how
much they will miss me.... pleasantly suprised!!!

They did in my case because I have a non-

    Irene,

DIMIA reserve the right to initial checks on the authenticity
of employment claims. This is to ensure the integrity of the system is
not compromised. Just because the skills assessment agency has done so
before does not mean DIMIA are obliged to waive any possible employment
    verification.

However, DIMIA may not initiate checks on each and every
applicant. I would think that it's possible that DIMIA will choose and
pick when it comes to this - and I would hazard a guess that DIMIA will
target applicants from high-risk countries (i.e. countries that have
applicants with a high rate of fraudulent claims). skbn136app should be
expected to interject now to say that I'm regionally biased and
    negative, but I digress.

If you provide a cover letter to DIMIA
requesting that they do not contact your present employer as you do not
wish that your present employer know of your migration plans, DIMIA may
well just skip calling them, if you have other documentation to prove
your present employment. However, DIMIA are again not obliged to accede
    to such a request.

  • when you get your official skills assessment letter you'll see a disclaimer
at the bottom that states that the integrity of the info provided in your
skills assessment app. is not the responsibility of the assessing agency ...

furthermore, DIMIA may choose to verify your credentials via the local AUS
    embassy/mission (with immi office/function) in your locale/country ... if
they do that the local mission may choose to write/call/visit in person the
employers referenced in your PR application ...

this is what i have observed by reading this NG ... you may want to do a
thorough search for ferification type of posts of which you'll find many ...

    cheers!

  • Thanks everyone
Yes its a tricky one. Well until I get my skills
assessment it is all irrelevant really. I am just waiting. I think I
may go to HR and get a letter from them and do what Peter has said and
explain to DIMIA about promotion etc. I will think on that one.
    Thanks
everyone for advice it is appreciated.

    hi Irene
Im a nurse too..........blimey the anc assessment
    is a pain isnt it?
From what I can gather, you will submit the certified
copies of the documents you submitted for your anc ***. so your current
reference at the time should be sufficient...does it not state the date
you were employed from and that it was to present date? This must happen
all the time...surely dimia cant expect everyone to provide a reference
to cover the period from submitting skills assessment to submitting main
app? As you work for the same trust, in all honesty not much has
    changed.
I have had to be crafty and get my clinical educator who is
ward based to do my current reference for me as there is no way our ward
sister would do it - that would be me out of the running for ANY
    courses!!!!
Good luck, let us know how you get on...especially how long
it takes once you have submitted your main app!!

  • Hi
My employer wrote on the letter dated oct 2003 that irene has been
employed since jan 2003 but did not specify the actual date i.e. 5th jan
2003. So i have submitted employer offer letter which has that date on
it and am still waiting for positive response. My ward sister is on her
hols and doesnt return for another 2 weeks so i am hoping that anc will
accept that with my original letter.

    Will keep you posted
