Wrongfully Charged Misdemeanor Worthless Check (CRIMINAL LAW & PROCEDURE)

I'm new to ExpertLaw.

In October 2004 I bounced a check to a Florida grocery store but paid for it November 2004. In April 2005 Publix grocery store sent a complaint to the local state attorneys' office in Florida for the same check that [COLOR="Blue"]I had paid to them 6 months prior to being charged with a Misdemeanor of a Worthless Check[/COLOR]. All fees were waived and a Dismissal of Charges was put on file with the public records office.

Now I live in a different state and cannot get a corporate job which involves bookkeeping that I really want because the charge remains on my background check as "nolle prossed", meaning "will not prosecute". My potential employer has stated that until I have this removed from my background check, they will not hire me. I have already paid the public records office to fax and mail the HR director a certified copy of the Dismissal of Charges. The state attorneys' office wrote a letter of explanation to my potential employer and the grocery store wrote me a letter of apology.

Other than expungement, what else can I do? I know that in Florida expungement can only be done once in a citizen's lifetime and this is too petty a thing to use that for. Is it possible the state attorneys' office could have better handled the case?
