Employment and Labor Law: Wrongly Accused and Made to Pay for Racism

My question involves business law in the state of: CA. Is there any way to defend against the accusation of racism? I work for a union construction company who was accused of racism after not accepting the dispatch of a worker who had previously quit abruptly from a position of responsibility. I know the company is fair and does not act in racist ways because I am a minority of the same race as well, and I have worked there much longer than he.
Regardless of that my boss payed him 7500 dollars to prevent incurring the legal costs of a court battle which would amount to approximately $30,000 and would be irretrievable.
Is there any way to prevent or to reverse or in any way to get that money back or to make the liar pay in some way?

It's your boss's business, not yours. I suggest not trying to stick yourself into the middle.

Agree. It wasn't "racism" they were accused of, it was illegal discrimination. You don't know the whole story, obviously. And there are many reasons the employer would pay, not the least of which is the cost of defending such a claim. $7,500 is getting off cheap for the employer.

MYOB.
