I suspect the story wasn't told correctly on his request for AOS.

Interesting statement:

Like these "others" that are approved have been in prison and were
accused of being IRA terrorists. But, they are "political prisoners".
In fact, the report doesn't even deny that he was a member of the IRA.
"Ciaran's illegal detention by the INS is fueled not by his immigration
status in this country, but his past involvement with the Irish
Republican Army." Well, duh....... Should we welcome, with open arms,
IRA members just because they have US spouse and child?

The Good Friday Accord was to promote peace in Northern Ireland, it
wasn't brokered so the people convicted of these crimes could freely
immigrate to the US. Ciarn Ferry is no Gerry Conlon.
