Is there help for domain name registration problems? (Intellectual Property)

Tue, 19 Aug 2008 11:43:00 GMT

HELP ME to understand how godaddy can get away with this ? I paid over $200 in May to register a really good domainname during the land rush for the dot me new extension. I called in the first week in August toi find out what the status was of my application. They said I needed to call the dot me registrar. Icalled them and was floored to find out they said that the second auction for the domain name that I had applied for was over that day and there were no bidders! I said WHATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT?? Why was I not notified of the auction like I was expecting? They said, "You'll have to call GoDaddy to get that information". I did and was veru disappointed to learn that they sent to the dot me registrar an incorrect email. I was furious. I got online on my godaddy sucks account and saw the original receipt when I applied and it had right on it the email address that I currently use and the one that I wanted associated with the application. When I saw this I had to ask how they could have screwed this up so badly. They kept transferring me to others, put on indefinite amounts of hold times, and generally have been trying to sweep me under the rug. I cannot understand how they can be so indifferent to a paying customer, and still advertise how safe their site is, since I now feel as though I have been totally ripped off and have nowhere to turn. I am faced with alot of mistrust now when it comes with dealing with anyone on the internet. As this event has taught me a lesson it would be wise that others be cautious when dealing with strangers who have only themselves in mind and could care less about paying customers. If the other phone number that they gave me, the one to contact the dot me registrar with, if they did not have the exact same 1920's-30's background music when one is placed on hold...the very same music that godaddy uses, then I would not have been so suspicious of all this, but really, has anyone else ever heard that crazy music played anywhere else when placed on hold? Ultimately, I believe that GoDaddy has found a way to sift through the many thousands of domain name applications they get paid to register, but before they do, they hand-pick the best ones; those that they feel are capable of being lifted from the person who had originally thought it up, so that they can then lay claim to it for their own use and profit. If anyone has a suggestion to get satisfaction somehow then I''d sure like to hear it. Thanks for reading!

  • When a company has "guard dogs" at the entrance to where someone is (the president)who might make a difference but won't, I tend to think that a company head is hiding behind those dogs for some reason,,,like, maybe he is trying to get away with something or hiding

  • I've been using GoDaddy since 2000, and, as a member of Gen Y, know many, MANY people who've used GoDaddy. We've all be very satisfied with them, only complaint being their website sucks to navigate. I'm not really seeing much here worth complaining about. Thing is, it doesn't make sense. They're not hiding behind guard dogs. In fact when my secondary account was hacked and someone stole my domains, the president himself contact us and was extremely helpful and sent to us, without a single problem, anything (within legal boundaries) that we could use in court to have the domains returned. With the president being willing to help, I highly doubt everyone at GoDaddy is shafting you in some great conspiracy theory.

Not only can't you follow the (VERY SIMPLE) posting rules for THIS site, but you didn't even ask a question.

I too am having trouble trying to know what your actual question is. But having worked in
this business in a previous life and dealt with practically the exact thing you've described, I
    will ask 2 questions:
    1. Did you actually get the .me domain name?
    2. If no, did Go Daddy refund you?
If no to both, then see if the .me domain name is still available and ask them to refund you
if they've charged you already. That and getting an apology for any possible oversight are
just about all you can realistically get from them.
Beyond that, I don't know how else you can force anyone to do more than what you want.
It's also fine to entertain any possible conspiracy theories, but isn't it generally the burden
of the one making any claims to somehow demonstrate it?
