Photography Law (Intellectual Property)

Thu, 06 Dec 2007 09:12:00 GMT

I am a photographer. I took some pictures of the state quarters and was wondering if there would be any copyright or trademark I might be infringing on. I would like to sell theme and hoping there are no laws to prevent me on doing so.

Also I took pictures of Legos and was wondering if there would be a problem if I tried to donate them to one of the Lego Stores.

I live in Illinois if that make any difference.

Thanks in advance, I appreciate any feedback.

  • Thank you, I suppose I have no problem then since the final images don't look like quarters at all.

If you'd like to take a look here is a link.

  • Images from U.S. coins and banknotes are in the public domain, although there are federal laws regulating reproduction of images (to prevent counterfeiting or near look-alike currency being passed off as real).

I don't know that Lego stores will have much interest in buying images of Lego blocks or structures, as they have a pretty massive organization behind them which can offer them such images.

  • In case of any confusion I mean the 25 cent quarters.
