Real Estate and Property Law: year-to-year lease after renewal - legal?

I rented a house for a year. My lease contract states that if neither party cancels lease after the first year, the lease automatically extends by another year. I am wondering whether this clause is legal!? Shouldn't the lease convert to a month-to month after the first year is over?
Any tip/idea would be highly appreciated!
Thanks,
Michael

What is the name of your state?

Yes it is legal... Unless specifically outlined as illegal per your states LL/T laws...
It is up to the tenant(s)(you) to read and comprehend what you sign...
It is NOT the LL's fault that you did NOT read the lease or did NOT ask any questions PRIOR to signing a legally binding document...
