You were right Yoyoma! (Real Estate & Property Law)

Fri, 28 Jun 2002 12:53:00 GMT

What is the name of your state? GA
Just wanted to let everyone know about a humiliating experience I had.
Yoyoma is right when he says paying rent is the most important thing.
I was all set to move to SC in 2 weeks to accept a job. My husband, son and I went to the town yesterday to get an apt.
Our credit was SO bad, we flunked the apt's credit inspection!
I didn't know things were this bad.
So there we were, a job and no home in one city, and no jobs and no home in Atlanta (we had given notice to our jobs and were at the end of our lease with current apt. We had given our 30 days notice, as required by lease).
I seriously had visions of my 2 year old son and us living in a cardboard box somewhere.
So I sucked up my pride and turned down the SC job. Husband and I were able to get our jobs back and we just signed a new 1-year lease with current complex (who is very happy they don't have to advertise for new tenants now).
We are going to create a budget, stick to it, pay off these old credit cards (not active but still have balances). And use this year to make things better.
I'm not proud to be working my $9/hr job when I have a college degree and could have returned to my profession.
HOWEVER, I never want to be in this situation again, and my son comes first. Stability, jobs, and a roof over our head is more important.
So anyway, everybody: credit problems are serious business.
Please, YoYoma, no "I told you so's" or sarcasm today please.

  • YoYo....was correct AND more and more professional managers and landlords are now requiring credit check FEES and have clamped down on resident credit criteria.
The DOJ and FBI have met with numerous landlord organizations over the last 6 months to advise on how to screen for would-be terrorist tenant applicantss. Since these people would not have access to credit in most instances, the credit screening criteria has gotten even more strict to the point where my screening company is running all males through fugitive warrant searches.
Lesson you learned is valuable and thanks for sharing it.

  • I dont know what to say?
But i am very glad things turned out pretty good.
Its hard to be underemployed, and you get so frustrated that sometimes you rush into things and it makes it worse.
i guess you know i screwed up too,in my early life too. But this shock and embarassment either make you realize what is important and what is not, or you just say fu*Kit. and live in some slumlords ratty trailer.
    The sun is shining**Good Luck!
