I live in Sacramento and recently received a zoning violation fee of $240 for having a commercial vehicle parked in my drive way.
I am a long-haul truck driver and have been bringing a commercial truck to our house for the past seven months. The truck is at our home for 2-3 days. This allows me to wash and clean it, remove my belongings (since this is my home for 2-3 weeks at a time), and restock it prior to leaving again.
Recently we had a county inspector come out and he proceeded to inform me it was a zoning violation to have a commercial vehicle parked in our driveway and that a neighbor had complained about it.
I never new this was a zoning violation and explained this to the inspector. I moved the vehicle that same day.
About a week later I received a notice informing me if I did not take care of the problem, I would be fined. I threw this notice away since I had already moved the vehicle.
21 days after the inspector was at my house, I received a fine in the mail for $240. I have asked the county to send me a dispute form in which I intend to fill out and return.
I think it is unfair for them to fine me since I was not even aware of the zoning violation and when I was informed, I resolved the problem immediately.
Does anyone have any idea's how to fight this?
